EC3 Discusses The Follow-Up Of Control Your Narrative’s Arrival At ROH Final Battle, What He Sees In Brian Johnson

EC3 shockingly brought his Control Your Narrative army to Ring of Honor’s Final Battle: End of an Era pay-per-view. In doing so, he took his own platform, in which stars like Adam Scherr have “controlled” their narrative, with a more traditional wrestling setting through ROH.

On a recent episode of ROHStrong, EC3 shared his thoughts on this unforgettable night. He described how having the two words collide was mutually beneficial for his project and the reimagined ROH upon its planned return in April. He pointed out that having ROH’s own stars as part of this eye-opening moment generated buzz and delivered a storytelling possibility that’s “readymade” for the new ROH.

“What I’m doing on my own is unique, it’s cool, it’s catching on,” said EC3. “But at the same time, it’s outside of the wrestling bubble. So to have these worlds infiltrate and finally come together to people are like wait, there’s actually something happening over here. That helped us take that next step and I think it’s a great step, not only for myself and what we’re creating, and what I hope to offer other talents. But it’s a great step for the reimagined Ring of Honor to come back because we’re readymade to go to war.”

As for the follow-through, while ROH will go on hiatus for the first quarter of 2022, EC3 teased taking his group elsewhere, at least in the meantime. He described Control Your Narrative as an “awakening” that can make a substantial difference in the wrestling world.

“It’s definitely about the follow-through, too,” said EC3. “Because when you’re doing business on other people’s terms, there’s going to be give and take. So the control that I so desperately seek exists in my realm, it can exist in other realms. Can this non-invasion, but this awakening take place in other three-letter brands, I think it’s poised to be something that’s so unique, it can be so hot and profitable and so interesting to not only fans, but to the companies that would allow this sort of 4D chess to take place on their platforms, the sky is truly the limit.

“And it’s about, you know, we accomplished one thing, but the second I accomplish something, it’s onto what’s next.”

Whenever a group of individuals debuts at a wrestling show, it’s easy for fans to assume that they’re witnessing the birth of a faction. But EC3 emphasized that Control Your Narrative isn’t a stable in the tradtional sense; instead, it’s an idea, but it’s carried out by performers who can and will “kick the s— out of you.”

“Control Your Narrative isn’t about joining some faction, it’s about an idea,” said EC3. “Control Your Narrative is an idea, it’s not a faction. But it’s an also an idea that’s gonna kick the s—- out of you, so let’s go because it’s wrestling and we like to fight.”

Many viewers have also been curious about why EC3 chose ROH standouts Brian Johnson, Eli Isom and Dak Draper; the trio got carried to the back after EC3’s own men attacked them at the pay-per-view in a tease that the three performers will eventually join Control Your Narrative. EC3 stated that he hand-picked Johnson, Draper and Isom because he empathized with the uncertainty they’re facing heading into the future, and he also believes the three individuals have a lot of potential.

“They were named specifically by me, to not only the office but aloud on pay-per-view because exactly what I see in them,” said EC3. “That’s why I had them there and what was very important with that whole segment is, I didn’t want them to be casualties at the expense of a name coming in and just beating people up. They were not there to be warm bodies to get tossed around. They were there with a reason and purpose, and it’s what I see in them…. All three have lost their home, in theory, have lost everything they’ve known. They’ve lost what’s most important to them. They don’t know what’s next, they’re jumping into the unknown. And I’ve done it, I’ve been there. I know the feeling.

“…They literally came to me, asking what do you think, what do you think, what should we do, what should we so? And all three of them, I’ve had instances with that I want them to know the unknown, it’s is not a safe place, but it’s the right place.”

EC3 spoke specifically about all three talents, but he spoke highly of “The Mecca”, who is renowned for his promo skills, and shared his hope that Johnson will reach a new level moving forward.

“Mecca was a guy that, he’s a [expletive], he’s a loudmouth, he shoots from the hip,” said EC3. “He’s a hell of a wrestler, but what I worry when someone’s a hell of a wrestler is, that’s all they’re known for. And he’s known for, ‘I can go out there and I can wrestle pretty well and it’s gonna look good, and it’s gonna be good, but I’m probably not gonna win, and I’ll probably always be at this level.’ And I think he can go way beyond that level, especially with that chip on this shoulder.”

For now, fans will have to wait and see what happens next, but one thing’s for sure — EC3 will keep controlling his narrative and giving others the platform to do so.
