Report: AEW Signing Shane Strickland, Deal Expected To Begin In March

All Elite Wrestling continues to acquire buzzworthy free agents and it looks like Shane Strickland is the next name on that list.

Two weeks after Keith Lee made his AEW debut, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported on Wednesday that Shane “Swerve” Strickland will soon be “All Elite.” Previous reports have suggested that “Swerve” was likely heading to the company, and Fightful’s story notes that, since January, many within the promotion have believed that Strickland would sign. Likewise, the report adds that AEW looked into Swerve shortly after his WWE release.

Sapp also noted that Swerve’s deal is expected to begin in the first week of March. It’s also worth noting that some of the discussion surrounding Swerve’s signing is that he could be a crossover star, as the company is hoping to feature more talent on other WarnerMedia programming.

As Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Strickland enjoyed some success in WWE; he was featured as a member of Hit Row, and he won the NXT North American Championship. The stable was released as part of a series of budget cuts in November.

Shane Strickland has previously been announced a few shows outside of AEW, he’ll compete at TERMINUS 2 and NJPW Strong Style Evolved, among other events. On Wednesday, Strickland posted on Twitter that “I’m worth every dollar.” It would appear in hindsight that he was referring to his next move, and he’s since commented on the Fightful report, simply posting a winking emoji symbol in response.

Strickland recently spoke with “Casual Conversations with The Classic” about the possibility that he could sign with AEW. He said he was “definitely interested” in that possibility, then said he’d be open to going anywhere. Read more about how he feels like he has more freedom for outside of projects now at this link.
