The Briscoes: We’re Confident Ahead Of NWA Crockett Cup, Nobody Is On Our Level Right Now

The Briscoes are one of the most renowned tag teams in the wrestling world today. As 12-time ROH World Tag Team Champions, their résumé speaks for itself. As such a successful team, Mark and Jay Briscoe are widely viewed as one of the favorites in the 2022 NWA Crockett Cup, which will kick off on March 19.

During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, The Briscoes previewed the tournament and their participation in it. Jay called accepting the offer to compete in it a “no-brainer”, given the Crockett Cup’s legacy, but Mark expressed his concern about how the duo lost the last time they were in the bracket; Brody King and PCO defeated the brothers in the 2019 competition.

” I gotta be honest with you, when I heard the words ‘Crockett Cup’, there was this little flash of red because last time we were in the Crockett Cup, after we beat the piss out of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, and we got in there with Brody King and PCO, they really threw down,” said Mark. “Well shoot, y’all know how it went down.”

With that setback is in the past, The Briscoes are firmly determined to run the table this year and win the cup. The reigning ROH World Tag Team Champions are confident in their ability to do so, as they believe that they’re unmatched as a tag team.

“Man, come on, now, ” said Jay. “There’s nobody. Zero. “The number of tag teams on our level right now, zero. And Lord forgive me for my pride, but it’s real, man. You watch us on any of these shows right now, you look at how we do what we do in the ring, ain’t nobody doing this. Ain’t nobody doing what we doing, man.”

Jay also explained that the brothers are drawn to the Crockett Cup because it offers them the opportunity to potentially showcase themselves four separate times through the multiple rounds of the bracket.

“I mean the Crockett Cup is some legendary s—,” said Mark. “And just the fact that it’s a tournament, you know what I mean, we have to win four matches to win the whole thing. So I’m feeling like we get to put on display four matches, I feel like we got a different strategy, each man.”

Both Briscoes then discussed how wrestling four times will allow them to showcase their diverse skill set, as they’ll be able to utilize their range as performers.

“[We’ll get to ] tap into the range,” said Mark. “In a tournament setting, it allows you to tap into the range of our abilities and capability.”

Jay then vowed to do whatever it takes to bring the Crockett Cup home. He also noted that the team’s free agency is its X-factor, as they’re “dangerous”, and he repeated that no other team is on The Briscoes’ level. and

“…Right now, what do we have to lose, you know what I mean? And we ain’t got no deals nowhere, man,” said Jay. “We just running around, doing what we do and getting what we can. And I feel like that’s what makes us the most dangerous right now, man. Nobody’s really on the level that we’re on right now. Like we got to do this. We got to do this.”

Fans can watch The Briscoes’ attempt to win the cup on March 19 and March 20, when the two-night NWA Crockett Cup event will air on FITE.

Beyond Crockett Cup, Mark and Jay Briscoe will defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship against FTR in a major dream match at ROH Supercard of Honor on April 1.
