New Details On OVW Deal With Netflix, What It Could Mean For Future Streaming Negotiations

The upcoming deal between Netflix and Ohio Valley Wrestling could mean big things for the world of professional wrestling in the years ahead.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Ohio Valley Wrestling had secured a deal for a reality series based on the promotion that would air on the Netflix service at some point in the future. But now, it appears that this deal could have bigger ramifications on the industry than anyone could have predicted at the time.

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), part of the deal between Ohio Valley Wrestling and Netflix is that the streaming service retains the “right of first refusal” when it comes to the ability of OVW to land a television deal.

Sapp says this is a big deal due to the fact that Netflix is currently in the process of figuring out how to stream live content in the future. If that happens, Netflix could emerge as a significant player in right fees when it comes to future negotiations for other big wrestling companies like WWE and All Elite Wrestling in the years ahead.
