Tyrus To Replace Nick Aldis In NWA World Title Match At NWA 74, Bully Ray Match Also Announced

NWA has announced a major change to NWA 74.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, NWA President William Patrick Corgan announced that Nick Aldis has been pulled from the main event of NWA 74. In his place, Tyrus will challenge Trevor Murdoch for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship at the pay-per-view,

Aldis won the finals of the Race to the Chase tournament on the July 19 episode of NWA Powerrr to earn the title shot, but Corgan has stripped him of the opportunity. Tyrus is the reigning NWA World Television Champion.

On Busted Open, Corgan explained the decision and stated that Aldis politics too much. (H/t Robert DeFelice of Fightful.)

“The good news is the growth of the NWA and the Resurgence of the NWA in the modern era, is bringing pressure inside the locker room. Everybody is jousting for position, as they should be,” Corgan said. “But in the case of Nick Aldis, yes, number one contender for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Trevor Murdoch in St. Louis, I’ve dealt with this man for over four years and for every ounce of politicking that you see publicly, there’s about ten times worse behind the scenes. No One stresses me out more in the NWA than Nick Aldis . No one is more highly paid than Nick Aldis, and no one is more unhappy than Nick Aldis. So yes, Nick Aldis won a tournament, the Race to the Chase, to become the number one contender… I mean, I’m 55 years old. I’ve got two little kids, I’ve got a musical life, this kind of junk, I just can’t take it anymore. So, I’m here to break some news. He has been stripped of the number one contendership and will not be in the main event at NWA 74.”

Corgan also praised the way former champion Matt Cardona handles his business.

Murdoch won the world title at NWA Alwayz Ready after it was vacated due to Matt Cardona’s injury. He defeated Aldis, Samuel Shaw, and Thom Latimer in four-way match.

WrestleZone will provide more details as they become available.

Update: Corgan also announced that Mike Knox will face Bully Ray in a Tables Match at the pay-per-view. Knox slammed Ray through a table when he appeared on the June 14 episode of NWA Powerrr. Later, in a promo, he stated that it would be “on sight” if he saw Ray again. Ray also appeared at NWA Alwayz Ready; he was on commentary for the NWA World Women’s Championship match between Kamille and KiLynn King.
