Report: Vince McMahon Isn’t ‘Pulling The Strings’ In WWE, Has No Say In Creative

Vince McMahon reportedly isn’t running WWE from the shadows.

In the aftermath of the former WWE Chairman’s retirement on July 22, and the elevation of Triple H to the head of creative on July 25, some fans and pundits have assumed that McMahon is still running the show. Stephanie McMahon’s position as the co-CEO (alongside Nick Khan) has often been used as a main point in this argument.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reports that several WWE higher-ups made it clear during the week of SummerSlam that McMahon is not “pulling the strings”. He cited one source who noted that the first WWE RAW after SummerSlam was meant to serve as a “statement” show to demonstrate the regime change. One higher-up referenced the way SummerSlam and the following episode of RAW were booked, particuaely Dakota Kai’s return and the lack of rematches as evidence of the lack of Mr. McMahon’s involvement.

Ross Sapp also stated that sources told Fightful that McMahon has “no say” in creative or in day-to-day operations, while others confirmed that they don’t need to wait for their bosses to wait for clearance from McMahon anymore.

The report additionally notes that Triple H has been working to improve the backstage environment since he assumed all creative responsibilities.
