Alex Kane Reacts To His PWI 500, BW 500 Rankings

Major League Wrestling superstar Alex Kane recently ranked highly in a variety of lists for top professional wrestlers over the last year. Despite that, though, he doesn’t let it cloud his judgment too much.

Speaking to the Shining Wizards podcast recently, Kane was asked about the PWI 500, a list that saw him reach 86th overall, a large leap from his last spot, which was 414th. For Kane, that blew his mind, although he knows there are certain criteria that go into it.

“I knew that,” Kane said of his jump. “When I saw it, it blew my mind. Because the previous one, I was 414. So, to jump that many spots, and I think it’s the biggest jump ever, but that was insane. So many of them (the boys) hate it, and I feel like a lot of them don’t pay attention to the criteria in which they lay out. It’s not like they’re hiding what the criteria is. They tell you what the criteria is. It’s from this date to this date. I can’t remember what the dates are, but it’s from a specific date to a specific date, so if you have a good run within those dates, you’re going to be ranked high on that. If you don’t have a good evaluation period, then your ranking’s going to be low, but it’s not saying these are the best wrestlers in the world. These are just the guys and girls that had the best evaluation period.”

Kane was also ranked highly on another list, the BW 500, also known as the Black Wrecellence list, which compiles the top 500 black professional wrestlers performing today. For Kane, his spot at #35 overall meant a lot more.

“Definitely a bigger feather in the cap for me, to be ranked that high,” said Kane. “And I think I’m up there with Keith Lee. I guess the biggest name I could see was Keith Lee. There were several other names above me, but to be ranked that high, that’s pretty dope to me.”

Of course, at the end of the day these sorts of lists are only as important as the individuals make them, and for Kane, he doesn’t really put much stock into rankings, although he does acknowledge that it is “cool” to be included in things like that.

“I don’t put any stock in it,” Kane said. “I actually forgot until you mentioned it. It’s cool to be in there, because it’s something I looked at as a kid, and it’s like I want to be in this. It’s also dope to be in the top 100 in that period, so that’s all dope. But it didn’t sell me anymore merch and it’s probably not going to sell any tickets.”
