Thunder Rosa Shares What Changed For Her When She Became AEW Women’s Champion

Thunder Rosa hopes when she returns from injury in 2023, she’ll be a better person and that things will be better for her in All Elite Wrestling.

AEW Women’s World Champion Thunder Rosa was a recent guest on the Wrestling Perspective Podcast to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked if she felt anything changed for her when she captured the championship earlier this year, Rosa said she thinks everything changes when the stakes are higher and is trying to do her best to understand what she can and cannot control.

“Absolutely everything changes because the stakes are a lot higher,” Thunder Rosa admitted. “And there are certain things that you don’t have power over it, and you have to go and do your job, right? And you just have to roll with the punches and really learn what you can and you cannot do. And what you can do, you do it. And what you cannot do, you got to manage yourself and do the best you can.

“So being a champion of any company, it’s an honor, but it’s also a very difficult task because all the eyes are on you, and that includes not only the company, but it includes outside, so you’re always being scrutinized for everything, and that can be very detrimental for your psyche sometimes when things are not going the way that you want to or are you had other expectations. So I think with everything that has happened to me, I really have come to a conclusion that I have to surrender certain things, and I have to keep my head high and keep going because I know who I am and I know the type of champion that I represent.

“Not only for my family, for the company, but also for the world. And for me, it has been an honor in the fact that I have been recognized in places I thought I never would. It’s huge, and I’m really happy about that. But were things perfect? No, they were not perfect. But I am learning a lot, and I will continue to learn, and I hope when I come back, things will be better, and I will be a better person, and I will continue to support the company the way that I had in and just be even more positive than I was before. I think that’s very, very important because sometimes we get in a rot, and we get stuck in things that we can’t change, and that’s a very dangerous place to be.”

Thunder Rosa stated last month on Busted Open Radio that she hopes to return to All Elite Wrestling in early 2023.

Toni Storm is scheduled to defend the Interim AEW Women’s World Championship against Jamie Hayter this Saturday night at AEW Full Gear.
