Rick Recon Is Ready To Close The Year Out Hot, Has No Complaints About New Opportunities

Rick Recon is ready to close the year on a high note.

WrestleZone recently spoke with Rick Recon, who will be in action at ISPW’s Christmas Chaos 2 event on December 9.

Known as “The King Of Rock”, Recon will face off with “Main Event” Michael Mars, TJ Epixx and GKM in a ladder match for ISPW Tri-State Championship spoke about the match and said that he wants to “close the year out hot” by walking away with the title.

Recon lives in New York, but he has also been making a name for himself by working in the New Jersey and New England independent scene. Recon spoke about the contrast between the respective regions and said that there are pros and cons to each one, noting that some issues with New York’s wrestling commission present new opportunities for him elsewhere.

“I guess it’s got its pros and cons. But it’s good in a sense because I’m not from that area, so I found that when you get outside your particular area, you do have to prove yourself maybe a little more. At the same time, I feel like you get treated a little better because you’re not directly from the area. So it’s not just, ‘Oh, you’re just Joe Schmo from down the road,’ you’re traveling three, four, five hours, however long it is. You come in, and you deliver, and you work with everybody really well, they treat you well. This is something I’ve noticed. There’s this old saying, ‘A prophet is never appreciated in his hometown or home country.’ It’s true,” Recon said.

Recon was part of IMPACT Wrestling’s Bound For Glory tapings in Albany in October, and noted how the New York State Athletic Commission was responsible for delaying the October 8 television taping by two hours. PWInsider.com originally reported the commission wouldn’t allow the taping to start because of an issue with not providing an ambulance on-site.

“I did some extra work for them. Yeah, that was literally what happened. It started two hours late. We were all sitting there wondering, ‘Why are they giving us a hard time today when they didn’t show up the day before. There seemed to be no issues. It felt like a shakedown, to be honest. Even Tommy Dreamer said that when he was coming through. He was like, ‘Ah, this is like a shakedown.’ I mean, whatever. We’ll do what we gotta do, but that’s what it feels like.”

Despite outside entities making it harder for wrestling talent in New York, Recon sees it as a glass-half-full situation.

“The harder it is for promotions to run in our state, the harder it is for guys like me that are based in New York state to work in New York. Which I love, because it ends up being good because you run into a lot of new places. You work them, and then you get to work for a place like ISPW in Jersey, and I certainly don’t have any complaints about that.”

ISPW Christmas Chaos 2 on Friday, December 9th at the Totowa PAL in Totowa, NJ. Check out our full video interview with Rick Recon at the top of this post.
