Claudio Castagnoli On William Regal’s Status: We Have To Wait And See, I Think We Need A Group Meeting

Claudio Castagnoli says the Blackpool Combat Club needs to figure out what’s next.

During a recent interview with Joey Hayden of the Dallas Morning News, Claudio Castagnoli was asked about William Regal’s status with the Blackpool Combat Club. Regal is rumored to be leaving AEW and could be headed back to WWE, but Claudio says it’s a “wait and see” situation.

“I mean, I guess we have to … we have to wait and see. You know, we’re still talking, I think we have to have a little group meeting to figure out what’s next, or if there’s a next. So yeah, I’ll leave it at that.”

Asked what it meant to him working with Regal again these past few months, Claudio said that it was always a learning experience.

Castagnoli: “I never stop learning from him. He’s the reason I got into WWE in the first place back in 2011, and he was one of the reasons why I really, you know, felt at home when I got to AEW because he was there. I was also the man who ended his career. So, I feel like there’s that connection there. There’s that respect. If you share the ring with somebody, there has to be a connection, especially when it’s somebody like William Regal. And I always learn from him, just the fact to be around him as much as I have been in the last couple of months in AEW, and to be around him not just in the back but also in front of the camera, it’s been emotional.”

Claudio also spoke about the development of Wheeler Yuta as part of the BCC, noted that he really benefitted from being in the group.

“It’s been awesome. Like I said, William Regal has always kind of like looked out for me and taught me … and I feel like doing that for Wheeler, who is very talented and has a bright future ahead of him. … I feel it’s important to give back. And there’s few people like [Yuta] who really want it and who are sponges and ask questions and want to get better and take critique and want to hear the stuff that they don’t do well, so they can do better next time. So, it’s been great.”

Claudio Castagnoli will challenge Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle on December 10.
