Cain Velasquez: Daniel Cormier And I Have Discussed Doing A Match For AAA

According to Cain Velasquez, he and Daniel Cormier have talked about doing a match for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

Both men are former UFC Heavyweight Champions, and they have entered the wrestling world in different ways. They have worked for WWE at different points; Velasquez was briefly signed to the company, and he even faced WWE Champion Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel 2019 before he was released in 2020. Cormier recently appeared as the special guest referee for the Fight Pit Match between Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules 2022.

During an appearance on Konnan’s K100 podcast, Velasquez stated that Cormier recently came to his house, and they talked about potentially doing a match together for AAA. He didn’t specify whether the idea would be for them to face off, team up, or interact in some other capacity.

“Daniel Cormier was actually at my house yesterday, him and Luke Rockhold came over, and DC talked about doing a match as well, like doing something with me, him, [and] AAA,” Velasquez said. “So for me, it’s just good that I get to have my family involved in it. My kids get to watch it, and they love it, and they’re big fans of AAA and WWE. I’m just glad I get to bring my family into a sport that I’m doing now. With fighting, it wasn’t like that. I had to kind of shelter then throughout that whole thing.

Konnan, AAA’s head of talent relations, made it clear that the company would like to do something with both men, and he teased that AAA is in talks for some TV time, though he didn’t get into specifics.

“We’d love to do something with you and DC, that would be great because we’re gonna be doing more stuff in the United States,” Konnan said. “I can’t get into details because we’ve been doing this for three years, but we’re talking with a network to get some TV, so that will be great.”

Velasquez was also asked about his potential plans in the wrestling world, and he responded by stating that he’s just enjoying himself and doing what he can with it.

“For me, it’s doing as much as I can with it,” Velasquez said. “I really do just have a great time out there. For me, it’s so fun, working with the guys I’ve worked with, just doing all the stuff we do out there. I really do love and enjoy it.”

On December 3, 2022, Velasquez returned to AAA at the company’s show in Arizona; he teamed up with Pagano and Blue Demon Jr. to defeat TaurusSam Adonis and Gringo Loco.

Velasquez is currently out on bail after he was arrested for attempted murder on March 2. More information is available here.
