Mark Henry: CM Punk Is Not A Locker Room Cancer

Mark Henry says CM Punk is not a cancer in the locker room.

Punk generated plenty of controversy when he took shots at AEW EVPs Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) at the AEW All Out 2022 post-show press conference. The two sides got into a heated altercation, and everyone involved was suspended. Punk has remained absent from the company, and it’s unclear what his future holds.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Henry discussed Punk’s absence and emphasized his belief that Punk still loves wrestling. He noted that Punk has not been released by AEW, and FTR have supported him the whole time he’s been away. Henry also shared his vision of an in-ring showdown between Punk and FTR and The Elite in a match where the loser would have to apologize.

“Punk has posted things. If you didn’t love it and you didn’t really want to do it, you wouldn’t post,” Henry said. “You wouldn’t have any interactions on social media at all. You’d just let it go. He has not been released from his contract. That being said, one of the things that I’ve seen is FTR has supported Punk the whole time, which I find to be refreshing in pro wrestling. We need to support each other, even if there is a problem.

“How cool would it be to see FTR go to Punk and say, ‘we’ll stand beside you against The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. Win, lose, or draw, we support you. The loser has to be the one to apologize.’ Somebody is going to have to apologize, even if they don’t want to. It also brings a little bit of togetherness. You have to use it now. You can’t have Punk come back and not address the issue, not say anything, ‘we’re just going to move on and put Punk with Powerhouse Hobbs.’ You can’t do that. You have to bring him back and make it mean something.”

Henry went on to highlight Punk’s presence at NJPW Battle in the Valley as a sign that he still loves wrestling. When co-host Dave LaGreca noted that Punk has been called a “cancer” by others in the wrestling world, Henry responded by saying, “He’s not! He’s not! I’m gonna say it.” (Transcription credit: Jeremy Lambert of Fightful)

Seth Rollins recently called Punk a cancer, which is where Henry’s response likely came from. Check out his comments here.
