Dominik Mysterio Doesn’t Hold A Candle To Eddie Guerrero But He’ll Still Use It To His Advantage

During his recent run with Judgment Day, Dominik Mysterio has had many fans compare him to Eddie Guerrero.

The comparison is interesting given the classic storyline that featured Eddie battling Rey Mysterio over the paternity of Dominik. Speaking to Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat, Mysterio reflected on the comparison and spoke about how much he talks to Vickie Guerrero, Eddie’s widow. The answer, Mysterio says, is “very little,” but that every time they do talk, Vickie praises him for his performances.

“Very, very little,” said Mysterio. “I just get goosebumps, man just every time I talk about him, or he gets brought up. And I know, I understand, that in no way shape or form, do I hold a candle to this man in ring or, or anything that he’s done, and I understand that. But with that being said, I will use everything to my advantage that he used, because obviously the people hate it, and they hate me for doing it. So it’s like, at the end of the day, that’s uncle Eddie. That’s Dad. In WWE storyline, that is my dad. So I’m going to steal whatever I can, and I’m going to use it to my advantage. But being able to talk to Vickie, it’s been little things here and there where she’ll reach out and she’s like, ‘I love what you’re doing.’ Or, I’ll reach out to her and go ‘Hey, hopefully this is okay,’ little things like that. And I never want any problems with the Guerrero family. It’s all love and respect at the end of the day.”

Dominik went on to mention that before he even started getting the more overt comparisons to Eddie, he made sure that Vickie and the Guerrero family were okay with it. He also credited both Eddie and his father Rey for “planting the seed” and nudging the young Mysterio into the business.

“Yeah, and even before it all started,” Mysterio said. “I forgot who I had mentioned it to, I was like, ‘Hey, can I reach out to Vickie or someone and let them know if this is okay?’ Because once I started growing out the mullet and the side-by-side started coming out, I was like ‘this is getting a little out of hand.’ And you know, I don’t ever want them to think that I’m taking advantage, or using it for a certain thing. But, at the end of the day, it’s all love and respect for me, and admiration to what he did. And I always like to say that without me even noticing, him and my dad nudged me into this business when I was eight years old. He planted that seed without even without me even knowing that I was going to be in this and I am forever grateful.”
