Dominik Mysterio: My Dad Flew First Class And Brought Me To Work, But I Had To Sit In Coach

Dominik Mysterio has “fond” memories of Rey Mysterio’s wrestling career.

Peter Rosenberg recently welcomed Dominik Mysterio to the Cheap Heat podcast, and Rosenberg asked Dom what his first memories of his father’s career were. Dom asked if he meant watching at home or actually traveling with him, so Rosenberg said he could name both.

“My first memory of him wrestling is him getting hit in the head by Jeff Jarrett with a guitar, which is a great memory to have. Believe it or not, and this is complete, 100% the truth, the first time I saw my dad on TV, he jumped off the ropes and he got hit in the head with a guitar by Jeff Jarrett,” Dominik said. “That’s my first memory of him.”

Dominik said he was probably scared at the time because he didn’t know how professional wrestling worked then, but now feels like Jarrett was right to hit his father.

“I instantly turned to my mom because I was like ‘What the hell? What’s going on here?’ But looking back on it now, it was probably a good thing,” Dominik said. “He probably deserved that. What did he do to deserve that is my question. Looking back on it now, Double J was definitely right.

“But then my first memory of him going to work — let’s start off with the flight. He gets first class. He’s sitting there first class, but little 8-year-old Dom gets sent to the back. Yeah, [he sent me to coach]. He’s the one that got the fresh mimosas, the breakfast sitting down while I was in the back. Not even a window seat where I could cuddle up and sleep, it was a middle seat. Believe it or not. Those are my first memories of traveling with my dad. And then we get to the arena and he just put me in the corner of the locker room. I can’t even look into the locker room, it’s the corner. I can’t look at anything else going on, but that’s my dad for you.”
