WWE is bringing the Backlash premium live event to San Juan, Puerto Rico, on May 6, and the company will get a noteworthy payday for the show without factoring in ticket purchases.
WWE has increasingly ventured around the globe in recent years, starting with the beginning of its partnership with Saudi Arabia in 2018. Travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic hampered some of these international efforts, but the company took steps forward in 2022 by hosting its first major stadium show in the United Kingdom in 30 years. Backlash will mark WWE’s first show in Puerto Rico since the New Year’s Revolution event in 2005.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that WWE is being paid $1.5 million for bringing Backlash to the country by the Puerto Rico Convention Center District Authority (PRCDA) and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. Backlash will be the first PLE/PPV that has been held in the country since New Year’s Revolution back in 2005.
Sapp also noted that WWE is speaking to various locations, both domestically and around the world, about the economics impact and spotlight that WWE offers hosts cities and the venue for events.
Following Backlash, WWE will also hold the King and Queen of the Ring event in Saudi Arabia, on May 27, as well as the Money in the Bank event in London, England, on July 1.
