Damian Priest: Working Backlash Makes Up For Not Having A WrestleMania Match

Damian Priest is very excited about WWE returning to Puerto Rico next month for SmackDown and Backlash.

The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest was a recent guest on Out of Character with Ryan Satin to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his former tag team partner Bad Bunny getting involved in Dominik Mysterio’s business at WrestleMania 39, Priest said he believes Bad Bunny’s emotions got the better of him and the two would need to have a talk about it.

“I think his emotions got the better of them,” Damian Priest said. “Look, I get it. He’s a fan of Rey, and I used to be a fan of Rey until I found out he wasn’t much of a father. But no, conversations are needed to be had, but we’re good; just a matter of him understanding. Look, I don’t think you can get what’s happening here, you know, and just got to smarten him up a little bit, and Bad Bunny should be good to go.

“It’s not necessarily about what he believes. In the end, I just got to explain to him the situation of we’re boys; you got to stay on this side of the tracks and don’t worry about the other side and don’t let your emotions get the better of you like you didn’t Wrestlemania. So getting involved probably not the wisest decision, but I’ll let him know. It’s just a matter of a learning experience for him.”

Clearly, this interview was recorded prior to WWE RAW, where Priest attacked Bad Bunny and put him through the commentator’s table after he laid his hands on Dominik.

Priest didn’t compete at WrestleMania 39 but made it clear that having a match at Backlash in Puerto Rico would definitely make up for it.

“That definitely would make up for it,” Damian Priest admitted. “Wherever you’re from, whether it’s a different country or just your town and you get to do something special there in front of your family, your friends, and people who are proud to say that they’re from the same place you are. It’s extra special.

“So going back to Puerto Rico and having a premium live event that hasn’t been done since 2005, I think? It’s wild to think that this is happening. I’ve thrown comments a lot since I’ve been here in the last few years like, ‘Hey, any opportunities to do something in Puerto Rico? Hey, we should probably do something out there. There’s a lot of fans there,’ and just keep pushing and pushing, and finally, the decision was made for Backlash and SmackDown, which is awesome.

“It’s two televised events back to back. It’s awesome where the company is right now that this is what we’re doing. We just did Clash at the Castle in Wales and Backlash in Puerto Rico coming up, and then we got Money in the Bank in London. It’s awesome.”
