Gable Steveson Set To Return To International Wrestling Competition

Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson is set to wrestle soon, but not in a WWE ring.

Team USA announced that Steveson is returning to amateur competition, as he registered in the U.S. Open, which will be held on in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 26-30. FloWrestling confirmed Steveson’s return to the sport. Steveson will be a representative of the Gopher Wrestling Club, which is Minnesota’s regional training center for international styles.

Steveson had an 85-2 record at the University of Minnesota, and he won two NCAA titles. He was a two-time Dan Hodge trophy winner, and he also won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He last wrestled in the 2022 NCAA Championships, and he subsequently left his shoes on the mat to indicate that his career was over. The U.S. Open is the first step in potentially qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the summer of 2024.

Steveson signed a WWE NIL contract after he briefly appeared on-screen at WWE SummerSlam 2021, and he was selected as a member of the WWE RAW roster in the 2021 WWE Draft. He appeared on-screen at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, and he suplexed Chad Gable on the second night of the show. Steveson also appeared alongside WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle on the December 9, 2022, episode of WWE SmackDown.

In a recent interview, Steveson noted that his proper WWE debut would be soon. Check out his comments here.

It’s unclear what this move means for Steveson’s WWE career. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
