Tony Khan Says He Can’t Comment On CM Punk’s Rumored Return To AEW

Tony Khan says “no comment.”

Former AEW World Champion CM Punk has been absent from AEW since the aftermath of AEW All Out 2022, where he made heated comments about The Elite (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks) at the post-show press conference. The two sides got into a brawl, and Punk has not appeared on AEW programming since. For a number of weeks, fans have buzzed about Punk’s potential return, and he’s reportedly set to come back in June.

Speaking with Maggie and Perloff, Khan was asked about Punk’s rumored return.

“I can’t comment on that, but I do think it’s very exciting that AEW’s running a lot of big events,” Khan said. “Chicago’s been one of the best cities for AEW for a long time, and I’m very, very excited to be back there. It’s a home city to me personally, growing up in Illinois and spending most of my life there until my dad got involved in the NFL and I moved to Jacksonville.

“Now, I live on the road every week, literally 52 weeks a year, but it’ll be great to be back in Chicago and certainly for AEW.

Khan was also asked to describe what he learned as an executive following “Brawl Out” after AEW All Out 2022. He stated that he couldn’t comment on that, but he noted that AEW has continued to grow ever since.

“I can’t really comment on that,” Khan said. “I haven’t talked about that particular situation since it happened specifically, but I think in the time since, AEW has continued to hit new heights and grow. I have a lot of respect for the people you just said as professional wrestlers.

“I think we have a great company going right now, and certainly every Wednesday on TBS. Some of the wildest action and certainly this week I think was one of the best episodes we’ve ever done, and with a big announcement coming next week, I think we’ve been able to sustain and continue to develop as a wrestling company.”

A recent report indicated that Punk wants to face Samoa Joe upon his potential return. Check out his comments here.
