Trinity Fatu’s Close Friendship With Mercedes Moné Helped Ease Transition Out Of WWE

Despite the uncertainty surrounding their exit from WWE, Trinity Fatu was fortunate to have Mercedes Moné help her through it.

Last year, Trinity Fatu (aka Naomi) and Mercedes Varnado (aka Sasha Banks) began a new journey in their wrestling careers. After walking out of WWE in June 2022, Fatu and Varnado opted to explore new promotions, with Varnado working dates with NJPW and STARDOM while Fatu made the move to IMPACT Wrestling. Luckily, though, they didn’t have to go into it alone. Fatu and Varnado leaned on each other for support — something that Trinity says helped her immensely during their period of uncertainty.

Ahead of her Knockouts Championship match at Slammiversary next month, Trinity sat down to chat with Sherri Shepherd on her daytime talk show, Sherri. Amidst their conversation, Trinity discussed her friendship with Varnado — who currently performs under the name of Mercedes Moné — and how it helped ease the transition out of WWE.

“It’s very difficult sometimes to get out of your comfort zone. And she and I kind of experienced that together, just the unknown, but having her to confide in, especially those times where it really did get hard. That’s my sister for life. Our relationship goes beyond wrestling.”

“We always had, I think, a great special connection. Just being together in the business over the years, working together, experiencing things together, even real-life stuff, family, we just experienced so much together. And I think it’s very special when you find people like that in the business where it goes beyond the work to that. Yeah, I love her. She’s the goat, the greatest of all time.”

While Fatu chases the Knockouts Championship, Moné continues to recover from an injury she sustained during her match at NJPW Resurgence.
