Report: Backstage Reactions To CM Punk’s AEW Collision Promo, Nixed Plans

CM Punk returned on the premiere episode of AEW Collision, and the former AEW World Champion cut a memorable promo. A new report shines some light on how it went over backstage.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that there were some people on both sides who felt that Punk was “getting out what he needed to get out”, though others felt that his line about being soft was hypocritical, as he was clearly upset about his storyline with Hangman Page and both the promos and the spots within it.

Punk’s line about a Warner Brothers Discovery executive calling him “One Bil Phil” was also noticed by the roster, as it stirred up speculation about AEW’s deal with WBD that was rumored to be lucrative. Per Sapp, sources noted that The Young Bucks took the promo light-heatedly and told anyone who asked that “things were okay.”

Sapp also wrote that the previously reported match between Punk and KENTA is not 100% as of this writing, though AEW remains hopeful it will happen. Previous reports linked Punk to Chris Jericho, Jay White, and Samoa Joe for potential feuds and/or matches, but there has been no word on Jericho in a while, and otherwise plans changed.
