Original Plans For Seth Rollins’ Open Challenge On WWE RAW

What happened to Seth Rollins‘ open challenge for WWE RAW earlier this week?

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins was scheduled to defend his title in an open challenge match earlier this week on RAW but was attacked by his Money in the Bank opponent Finn Balor before it happened. But a match was scheduled to take place, so what was originally planned?

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), Rollins was scheduled to have his open challenge answered by Tommaso Ciampa, and a lot of time was going to be dedicated to the match itself before the idea was nixed by Vince McMahon.

As to why Mr. McMahon made the change that’s unknown at this time, but it wasn’t so that Ciampa wouldn’t lose his first match back, as the plan was for the open challenge to end in a non-finish to protect both men. Sapp stated that those around the match were “clearly frustrated” backstage as it related to the changes in the show.
