Eddie Kingston Details Recovery From Hernia Surgery

AEW/ROH star Eddie Kingston is getting back to a better version of himself following hernia surgery.

Kingston unsuccessfully challenged Claudio Castagnoli for the ROH World Championship at ROH Supercard of Honor. He subsequently announced that he would miss some time because he had to have hernia surgery.

Speaking with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Kingston was asked to describe how he feels in the aftermath of his surgery. “He “The Mad King” noted that he tried to work through the injury, but eventually he reached a point where he couldn’t. Kingston made it clear that he feels much better now.

“I’ve been dealing with the injury since September and I did the typical stupid wrestler thing, which is work through it and then I couldn’t work through it anymore,” Kingston said. “I feel a thousand times better. They told be six weeks.

“So I took all six weeks, took advantage of it. As I said on TV the other day, ‘Please forgive me for the way I look. I had been eating a lot of ice cream during my time off.’ I’ve just been able to get back to working out. I’m getting back to a better version of me.”

When asked about the point where he realized he couldn’t keep working through the injury, he recalled how he couldn’t sleep the night after his match with Castagnoli at ROH Supercard of Honor. He then tried to go to work, but he couldn’t get on the plane because he was in so much pain.

“The way I judge pain is if I can sleep,” Kingston said. “That last match I had with Claudio at Ring of Honor (on March 31), I was icing my groin area and I couldn’t sleep at all that night, and when I saw that I knew something was wrong.

“I still tried to go to work that Wednesday. I got up that Tuesday to go to the airport and I’m out the door and I looked at my girlfriend and said, ‘I can’t get on that plane.’ That’s how much pain I was in. I was like, ‘Yea, it’s time to go.'”

Kingston made his return on the June 14 episode of AEW Dynamite. He competed at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where he teamed up with The Elite and Tomohiro Ishii to defeat Blackpool Combat Club, Konosuke Takeshita, and Shota Umino.
