Sonny Kiss Comments On Speculation About Her Lack Of TV Time In AEW

Sonny Kiss addresses her position in AEW.

During a recent interview with Matt Cullen of Our Queer Life, AEW and Ring of Honor star Sonny Kiss was asked if she thought being openly trans-feminine would affect her career.

“Kind of. There’s definitely been some shifts in the booking,” Kiss said. “It happens, naturally, so it’s not always about that. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I thought sometimes it was about that.”

Cullen then brought up how fans speculate that Sonny Kiss hasn’t appeared on AEW programming in months because of her identity.

“I understand why they would say that. But Tony Khan is a very, very fair boss and he’s all for equality,” Kiss said. “When I go back to thinking about that, he hired me, not because of who I am, but because I was just a good damn wrestler. Obviously, things are going to go through your head all of the time because that’s just being a normal human being. We all have these mental health crises sometimes. In all actuality, if he didn’t want me in the company, I wouldn’t be there.”

Kiss noted that AEW isn’t going to hire or keep someone on the roster simply because they represent diversity.

“I think a small part of keeping our jobs or having jobs is definitely a diversity thing for sure,” Kiss admitted. “But I’m gonna say this, AEW, in particular, is not going to hire you just because you’re that. They’re not going to keep you just because you’re that. It’s great to have, but it’s also great to have them when they have talent, and we all do.”

Kiss hasn’t competed on AEW Rampage since August 2022 and last appeared on AEW Dynamite in October 2020. She has, however, worked Ring of Honor tapings recently after regularly competing on AEW Dark.
