IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley challenged Hiroshi Tanahashi in a social media video for an IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United 2 match on August 20.
In the video, Shelley mentioned that he has looked up to Tanahashi for years because he is the Ace, but that he is the Joker. He suggested that Tanahashi could contend for the IMPACT World Title and that Shelley would demonstrate why he is the best in the world.
The fight was made official on the July 27 IMPACT broadcast when it was confirmed that Shelley’s challenge was accepted.
