Rey Mysterio has won the WWE United States Championship.
On the August 11 episode of WWE SmackDown, Austin Theory was set to defend the WWE United States Championship against Santos Escobar. Escobar previously earned the title shot by winning the United States Championship Invitational. He defeated his fellow LWO member Rey Mysterio in the finals.
Theory attacked Escobar backstage on Friday night, but the challenger was still cleared to compete. During Escobar’s entrance, Theory attacked him again. WWE Official Adam Pearce then announced that Mysterio would challenge for the gold instead.
Mysterio went on to defeat Theory to win the title.
With the win, Mysterio is now a three-time WWE United States Champion. He captured the title twice and had two short reigns with it in 2019.
Theory previously won the title at WWE Survivor Series 2022 by defeating Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley.
WWE subsequently announced that Mysterio will appear on The Grayson Waller Effect on the August 18 episode of WWE SmackDown.
