Report: WWE Believes Edge Is AEW Bound, Turned Down Terms To Re-Sign Him

WWE reportedly turned Edge‘s terms down, and there is an internal belief that he is bound for AEW.

The WWE Hall of Famer wrestled in what he said was the last match on his current contract on the August 18 episode of WWE SmackDown. There, he defeated Sheamus. After the bell, he noted that he wasn’t sure what the future held. Despite that, he felt he’d had his last match in Toronto. Edge has also stated that his contract is not up until the end of September.

PW Torch‘s Wade Keller reports that Edge presented what it would take to keep him to WWE, but WWE opted not to meet the request. This decision led to an internal belief that Edge is “probably headed to AEW”, and that the legend knew what the company could offer him. Keller wrote that AEW CEO Tony Khan is a big fan of “The Rated-R Superstar.”

Per Keller, WWE management “doesn’t resent” the possible outcome of Edge going to AEW. The company celebrated him on the August 18 episode of SmackDown because he is well-liked.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer later confirmed the accuracy of the report.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.

Update: Edge has responded to the reports about his status and said there’s no bad blood between himself and WWE. He also said he did not present a crazy contract offer, nor was it denied. Read his full statement here.
