MJF Boasts About His Title Win On AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam

Last night on AEW Dynamite’s special Grand Slam edition, MJF successfully defended his World Title against Samoa Joe.

The rivalry between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and The Samoan Submission Machine was apparently meant to be. Their rivalry has seemingly been boiling up for several years. The two go a long way back, to the time when Samoa Joe was the world champion in NXT. At that time, MJF was one of the members of security who escorted Joe to the ring.

Now, in their run in AEW, the Samoan Submission Machine vowed to win the AEW World title Eliminator Tournament to earn a shot at MJF. Joe did as he promised and managed, finally earning the opportunity to challenge The Salt of The Earth.

MJF claimed that the time he was Joe’s escort changed his entire life. He assured the former WWE Superstar that he was no longer a rookie that could be pushed around. The self-proclaimed Devil of AEW also promised to retain his title and also vowed to choke Samoa Joe out.

The two wrestled in the main event of last night’s AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam event. Both stars threw everything in their arsenal at their opponents. Joe hit the Muscle Buster but Friedman kicked out. Finally, Adam Cole gave a rope to his friend and he choked out Joe using that. The referee did not see Friedman using the rope. Joe was choked out and MJF retained his title.

After the match, the champion took to Twitter to gloat about his victory.

“I always keep good on my promises. Choked out Joe. And still,” MJF tweeted.

Following the match, Samoa Joe shook hands with MJF showing his respect for the AEW World Champion.
