Shanky Reflects On Getting To Wrestle At WWE Superstar Spectacle In India

Shanky is thankful he got the chance to wrestle for WWE in India.

Wrasslinews spoke with Shanky (Gurvinder Singh Malhotra) at the WWE Superstar Spectacle in India (The interview was released after Shanky’s WWE release). He spoke about WWE returning to India and how it had been a dream to wrestle in front of his country’s fans.

“WWE is running a show in Hyderabad for the first time, so I’m very excited,” he said. “I had been waiting for this a long time, and it is finally happening!”

However, one person who was not at the WWE Superstar Spectacle was Shanky’s mother.

“No, my mother does not like watching wrestling. My mom tells me to come back so that’s why she isn’t here today, because she knows there’ll be a lot of violence,” he explained. “So she did not come, she is at home only. My cousins and a lot of my friends have come here today.”

The former WWE star trained at The Great Khali’s wrestling school and was excited to meet him.

“[Khali] Sir’s blessings have always been with me, his support has always been with me. And the beginning of my career was from his wrestling school – CWE. So it feels very good! I have not met Khali sir yet,” he noted.

Shanky was one of many performers released by WWE on September 21. He made his in-ring debut in India’s Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE) in 2015 and signed with WWE in January 2020.

The 2023 WWE Superstar Spectacle marked his first match in more than 14 months. His Intercontinental title match with Gunther at the event was his last match for the promotion.
