WWE Tries Out Speed Concept At 12/15 WWE SmackDown Taping

The WWE is reportedly trying out a new concept.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select), WWE ran two matches with “WWE Speed” logos during the pre-show matches for the December 15 episode of SmackDown. In a surprising twist, the matches all featured a variety of WWE and NXt talent.

The matches themselves all also had five-minute timers to them, with a giant countdown appearing on the video screen. In the matches, NXT’s Nathan Frazer defeated RAW’s Bronson Reed, and Cedric Alexander beat NXT’s Axiom.

Sapp notes that Corey Graves and Kevin Patrick were on commentary, and that the matches were filmed as if they were to be broadcast. However, it’s unclear exactly what the plans are for them.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
