Billie Starkz Reflects On Signing With AEW Before High School Graduation

Billie Starkz looks back on signing with AEW while she was still in high school.

18-year-old Billie Starkz was one of the most buzzworthy young stars on the independent scene when she made her AEW debut in December 2022. She started wrestling for the company on a regular basis. She also became a featured member of the ROH roster throughout 2023, and she announced she signed with AEW in October. Starkz headlined ROH Final Battle, as she challenged Athena for the ROH Women’s World Championship.

Speaking at the ROH Final battle post-show scrum, Billie Starkz described how she signed with AEW before she graduated high school. (H/t Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)

“I’m going to be honest. I could have done anything with my life,” Billie Starkz said. “I had a 4.6 GPA in high school and now I’m doing college because I think you should have a brain no matter what career you’re in.

“I chose AEW, truly for my own benefit. I had many options in high school, which was crazy. I didn’t graduate before signing a contract. I don’t know if anybody knows that information, but I signed a contract while I still hadn’t graduated high school, which is crazy.”

Billie Starkz: There Are Many People Here I Would Love To Wrestle

Billie Starkz went on to state that she signed with AEW because it gave her the freedom she wanted. She highlighted AEW’s women’s division and noted that there are many people she would love to wrestle.

“I did choose to come to AEW because it gave me the freedom I wanted and I wanted to grow on my own and say I did this by myself,” Billie Starkz said. “AEW has such an amazing roster of women that I don’t think get the credit they deserve. Athena has been wrestling for over a decade. Toni has been all over the world doing phenomenal things.

“We have new talent coming in like Mariah May, who is doing phenomenal work. I have so many people here that I would love the opportunity to wrestle and work with. I wouldn’t have the opportunity to wrestle anywhere else.”
