Lio Rush: CM Punk Wanted Danielle Fishel To Be My Manager In AEW

Everyone has a CM Punk story. Lio Rush has a good one too.

Rush spoke with MuscleMan Malcolm, who asked if he had a good CM Punk story. Rush said he did, and shared how CM Punk pitched him on making Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World‘s Topanga) his manager in All Elite Wrestling.

“I remember meeting CM Punk at the beginning of the show when we all came in the building. I remember seeing him sitting on the bleachers. And I just walked over and introduced myself to him. I told him how much I looked up to him as a kid — I didn’t want to make him feel old, but I told him that I looked up to him and I appreciate his work and his time in WWE.

“A couple of months later, about a month or two later, he ended up coming to me with an idea. I don’t even know if I should say this, but I’m going to say this anyway… He came up with an idea where he wanted Danielle Fishel to come in to AEW to be my manager. [laughs] Because we had that mutual friend in Danielle, so yeah that was an idea that came up, that he wanted to talk to me about. That never really came to fruition, but yeah, that’s my CM Punk story. I’ve got a couple more, but maybe I’ll save it for a book one day.”

Rush was with AEW between May 2021 and February 2022. He first appeared as the Joker in the Casino Battle Royal at Double Or Nothing, and signed a contract with the promotion in September 2021. He became a free agent on February 14, 2022.

His time with AEW was short-lived, however, he was still on the same roster as CM Punk starting with Punk’s debut in August 2021.
