Report: Update On WWE’s Interest In Working With Other Companies

A new report provides an update on WWE‘s potential interest in working with other companies.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Triple H and Nick Khan were “perhaps” looking to work with Japanese promotions as allies moving forward. He noted that the first step came with NXT’s Charlie Dempsey wrestling for All Japan Pro Wrestling.

Additionally, the report noted that there had been internal talk about “trying to make another go” with NJPW. Meltzer also wrote that WWE was potentially looking for an ally in the Japanese women’s wrestling scene as well.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reports an update on the situation. Sapp writes that WWE sources indicated that they had not heard about the rumors of the company working with STARDOM. These sources claim that no deal was in place, and they have no knowledge of any talks. However, sources also note that the company was in a new era, so things could be done differently.

Update On WWE Working With AJPW, Interest In NJPW

Per Sapp, as for AJPW, one source notes that the deal was a “wait and see” situation, but it looks good. This source states that WWE has been more relaxed with these collaborations recently. NXT sources claim that Dempsey was “treated well” during his time with AJPW. In the report, Sapp writes that AJPW sources were said to be happy with his performances.

Sapp also notes that WWE has maintained interest in having some connection with NJPW. However, sources from both companies note that they did not think it is particularly likely, given NJPW’s strong relationship with AEW. That being said, with Hiroshi Tanahashi taking over as NJPW President and Triple H at the helm with WWE, it is seen as at least more likely than it had been. Sources also indicate that Vince McMahon typically nixed any talks of working with NJPW. Meanwhile, though Rocky Romero spoke with Nick Khan years ago, the talks never went anywhere.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
