Sabu Opens Up About Plans For His Final Match

There are only a handful of professional wrestlers that come to mind right away when talking about Extreme Championship Wrestling. One of them is someone who is arguably the most extreme wrestler in the business. It is none other than the suicidal, homicidal, genocidal, and death-defying maniac, Sabu. At the age of 59, it is safe to say that he is closing in on his retirement. Apparently, Sabu thinks the same as well.

During the recent episode of the Stories with Briscoe and Bradshaw podcast, Sabu was the special guest. The former ECW wrestler opened up about his final match. He mentioned that he would want to have his last match in July this year.

“I want to do a final match maybe in July or later.”

The Death-defying Maniac also mentioned that he would hopefully have his last match against Rob Van Dam.

“Not exactly, it’s probably going to be [Rob] Van Dam. I heard Van Dam say something about he wanted to have a barbed-wire match for his last match and my last match.”

Sabu also does not want to have a gimmick match to end his career.

“I want to have one of my better matches. A barbed-wire match, that’s a gimmick, and I don’t really want a gimmick. The gimmick is my final match,” Sabu said. [H/T Wrestling Inc.]

Rob Van Dam claims Sabu would intentionally botch spots

During an episode of the 1 of a Kind podcast, Rob Van Dam mentioned that the Death-defying Maniac would purposefully botch moves to upset the wrestling marks.

“He would do that and he would tell me he is gonna do it, and then I would see the write up and they would be criticizing him saying that he missed a bunch of spots because it was so different. It wouldn’t even, it wouldn’t fit in. And the only reason to do it would be, ‘Hey, that would happen.’

“You know, but everyone’s gonna think he f*cked up. So he would do that for no reason. Like boom, set me up chair top rope. He would slip and like, fall to the floor and everyone would be like, ‘what just happened?’ And he wanted it that realism and wanted to work the people in the moment so much that, you know, sacrificed some of his credibility with certain marks,” Rob Van Dam said.

Who would you like Sabu to face in his final match?
