Goldenboy Missed Offer To Try Out For WWE Because He Didn’t Check His DMs

Goldenboy has done commentary for All Elite Wrestling, but there was a point where he might have been a ring announcer for WWE.

On a recent episode of Rebooked, Goldenboy (Alex Mendez) told the story of Triple H seeing his tribute to him at the Overwatch League Finals. This would have led to a WWE tryout if he bothered to check his direct messages on Instagram.

“Triple H is one of my favorite wrestlers ever,” Goldenboy said. “I thought this would be a great way to capstone the Overwatch League Finals. Turns out Triple H saw it. He saw me do the thing. And then he told Michael Cole to reach out to me. This is where the story gets a little funny.

“So Mike Rome who we all know as the ring announcer for Monday Night RAW, great guy, messaged me on Instagram one day because Michael Cole told Mike Rome, ‘Hey, can you find this guy?’ So then Mike Rome messages me on Instagram.

“Now if anyone knows me, just one look at my Instagram can tell you I don’t really use it that much. There was a message there from Mike Rome saying, ‘Hey man, we’re really excited to bring you in for an audition potentially and see if you fit with WWE.’ I saw that message a year and a half later.

“Honestly, I got to do Titan Games. I got to do like Valorant and Halo and a bunch of other games I got to continue. I got to do AEW, so I’m not too disappointed in it. But definitely, I’m curious to see the multiverse where I did respond to that message. That actually would be super cool.”
