Sting Opens Up About Why He Could Never Pull Off ‘Surfer Sting’ Anymore

Last night was AEW’s Revolution pay-per-view. This year’s event is extra special as it was the final night WWE Hall of Famer and AEW World Tag Team Champion Sting wrestled. The Icon successfully defended his tag team titles along with Darby Allin against The Young Bucks. Sadly, this might be the last time we ever see the Icon inside a professional wrestling ring. He’s had an illustrious career and fans have seen the many faces of Sting. One of them was the ‘Surfer Sting’. It was a gimmick that The Icon had not done in over three decades. Recently he revealed why he refuses to return as Surfer Sting.

While speaking to Pro Wrestling Illustrated, The WWE Hall of Famer shared that there have been promoters in recent times who have asked him to return to the ‘Surfer Sting’ gimmick. Despite Sting trying to return in that gimmick, he was not satisfied at all.

“Oh, I could never pull that off again. There’s just no way. I did an appearance for somebody a few years ago and they really wanted me to do the surfer paint, you know? “Do you still have the jacket you wore against Flair? The 1980s blue tights?” I tried to say no, but he kept at it until I said alright and tried it. But it felt ridiculous. Fans love it, but I can’t do it justice, and I wouldn’t want fans to remember me trying and failing to be a version of myself from 35 years ago,” Sting said.

Throughout Sting’s career, he has been able to show off the different World Championships he has won in his career. He is one of the few legends who has retired from pro wrestling as a champion.
