Samoa Joe Appreciates Championships, But His Focus Has Always Been Fan Experience

Former ROH World Television Champion Samoa Joe captured the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at the World’s End pay-per-view. It has just been over two months since he won the title and has successfully defended it so far as well.

Recently, during an interview with Joe Murry of 98.5 The Sports Hub, Samoa Joe opened up about who he thinks would be challenging him next for the World Title. He also claimed that nobody can take the championship away from him no matter what and the only way he will drop the belt will be when the world comes to an end.

“Well, who earns the opportunity, that’s very much out of my hands. I mean that’s whoever wants to step up and actually prove their case. As for, when is this [the AEW World Heavyweight Championship] going to leave me, I mean, listen, we can sit here and talk about the end of the world all you want. But that’s probably the only time this is ever coming off my shoulder.”

Samoa Joe on Swerve Strickland

The Samoan Submission Machine had some words of praise for one of his opponents at the Revolution PPV, Swerve Strickland.

“Swerve Strickland has been a guy in my estimation has been kind of slept on by a lot of the fandom. Not really realizing what he’s capable of. He’s had several characters, several opportunities through different companies. But now, he’s kind of coming into his own. He has an ability to kind of be himself, put out his music the way he likes. And all kind of fits together nicely.

“I think getting a guy like Prince Nana who was a tremendous manager in ROH. Maybe in my opinion one of our unsung guys at the time there. Joining up with him, it just kind of makes this really nice package that works really well for him and I’m so glad it’s all coming together for him. It’s all going to go horribly wrong in a couple of weeks.”

Samoa Joe wants to make sure the fans get the best experience when they see him wrestle

During the same interview, the current AEW World Heavyweight Champion also mentioned that while he appreciates all the championships he has held, the most important thing that he cares about is the fan experience.

“I think the biggest asterisk for me, obviously I’m very appreciative of the championships that I’ve had and the times I’ve had. But my focus has always just been on the fan experience. And I want people to know when they show up they’re showing up for a big fight and they’re going to have a blast watching it. And that’s really been my focus and as long as the fans are feeling that way about what I do in the ring, then, I’m more than satisfied with what I’m doing… You set an expectation because you want it met. You want people to depend on that expectation. So that’s really what it’s been about,” Samoa Joe said.
