Bayley Explains Why Her WrestleMania Win Is Bittersweet

The Role Model Bayley defeated IYO SKY to become the new WWE Women’s Champion. Following her win, Jackie Redmond caught up with her backstage for a Digital Exclusive. During the interview, the newly crowned champion mentioned it feels good that she can finally hold on to a championship after four years.

“My God. I haven’t held one of these in five years, four years, maybe really. Feels good.”

Bayley also mentioned that winning the title is more of a bittersweet moment. She claimed that her relationship with the rest of Damage CTRL is most likely over and IYO SKY would never forgive her.

“Yeah, it’s really bittersweet, honestly. I’ve had a… I’ve been struggling like, I am right now… But I’m grown. I ain’t gonna cry anymore like I used to in these. This isn’t NXT Bayley. Very much mixed emotions, very bittersweet. At the end of the match when the one, two, three happened, I kind of didn’t… It’s weird. I didn’t want to leave her side. Just kind of laid there for a second. I’m like, ‘All right, when I roll away and Danilo the referee, gives me the title, that’s it. We are done.’ The whole time I felt like, this was all happening, the story was unfolding. And naive me, felt like we were gonna make and we never did, and this solidifies it. I know she’ll never forgive me after this, so whatever.”

Bayley is thankful the fans were behind her at WrestleMania 40

Bayley also thanked the fans for supporting her throughout her journey.

“I felt them when I came out. So it’s WrestleMania, right? It’s not like this is one, this isn’t just a Philly crowd. This isn’t just a Cali crowd. We are not in one spot. WrestleMania brings people from all over the world. So there’s all kinds of different fans and they wanna see different things. When we went to Puerto Rico it was Bianca versus IYO SKY, where most of the time, Bianca has her fans in the favor. But they were chanting for IYO, so I said, ‘Hey, what if there’s a bunch of people from Puerto Rico here?’ I wasn’t sure how it was gonna be. Half and half, it didn’t matter. Because, this was the goal. Ending IYO was the goal,” Bayley said.
