Nigel McGuinness wants to prove that he could have had all of Bryan Danielson‘s success.
McGuinness previously stepped away from wrestling in 2011. He came out of retirement at AEW All In. He is set to return to the ring at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam and face Bryan Danielson. This will mark the continuation of their rivalry, which dates back to their early years in ROH.
Speaking with Tim Battle and Eli on the Battleground Podcast, Nigel McGuinness discussed the upcoming match.
“I just think the experience of being in front of those people again, it’s something that I arguably took for granted when I was a wrestler,” Nigel McGuinness said. “But when I walked out at Wembley Stadium and got that reaction, it was just incredible and so heartwarming to be remembered that way and respected that way. I know it’s not gonna be the same reaction.
“But I’ve always said you just need people to care about, and that was always the case with me. People either loved me or hated me, but as long as they had an opinion, that was all that mattered.”
Nigel McGuinness On Facing Bryan Danielson
Nigel McGuinness then said that he was just trying to prove that Danielson’s success could hae been his.
“I think there’s gonna be a lot of that, hopefully, there’s gonna be a lot of those people who followed our career since Ring of Honor, they’re gonna come out and really want to see who can prove that today, they are the better wrestler,” he said. “That’s all I’m trying to do. I’m just trying to show that all the success that he’s had should have, could have, and would have been mine in a different universe.”
