Will Ospreay wants to put the “post” in post-wrestling life.
Wrestling fans currently know Will Ospreay as “The Aerial Assassin,” or as a former AEW International Champion. In his eventual in-ring retirement, however, it seems that Ospreay is considering taking up another profession.
While appearing on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Ospreay addressed the future of in-ring work, which he believes will culminate in a mic drop moment, followed by a change of careers. He said he thinks about retirement, although he doesn’t like to, but has another career in mind.
“I don’t like thinking of it,” Ospreay said when asked about how much longer he plans to wrestle. “I think I will one day just disappear. Will just go, ‘Ah, this is me.’ I won’t have anything really. [You won’t have a final match?] Oh no, of course I will. But then that was the day I will grab the microphone on live TV and say the C-word, and then just drop the mic, ruin this and then I’ll just go be a postman somewhere.
“Like that big Sting retirement, where everyone’s coming out and clapping their hands, tears in their eyes, and I just grab the microphone and go ‘c*nt!’ That’s the way I want to go out.”
According to Ospreay, he aims to pay off his house as well as his mother and father’s. Afterward, he sees himself petting neighborhood dogs and distributing the mail as a UK postman. Ospreay said he’ll still likely stay on as a wrestler in some way, but he’s excited about the prospect of having a ‘regular’ job.
“As soon as I’m done with AEW, I’m being a postman. I’ll have my house paid off, my mom’s house paid off, my dad’s house paid off. I’m just going to be ‘Alright, that’s me, I’m done, going to be a postman for the Royal Mail.’ I would love that, mate. I would flipping love that,” Ospreay said. “That ambition of just being like, ‘I’m done. I’m going to be a postman.’ [And I’ll] just go stroke people’s dogs. Let’s go, ‘here’s your post.'”
