Janel Grant has filed a new response in the U.S. District Court of Connecticut, opposing a move by WWE, Vince McMahon, and John Laurinaitis to block her amended complaint.
In the latest filing from Grant, per Wrestlenomics, she argues that the U.S. District Court of Connecticut should allow the expanded complaint of hers, instead of looking at the filing she made in January 2024. According to Grant’s filing, new developments have emerged since then, including things like the Securities and Exchange Commission finding that McMahon engaged in what Grant’s filing calls schemes to conceal misconduct.
Grant’s filing comes just a week after McMahon and WWE filed oppositions to Grant trying to amend her case. According to arguments from WWE, McMahon, and Laurinaitis, Grant is misusing the court to generate publicity, a claim that Grant denied in Friday’s filing.
Grant’s filing notes that she initially withheld information out of concern for the criminal investigation into McMahon. However, now that the stay from June to December 2024 has ended, Grant’s attorneys say that she should be allowed to file again with the updated claims.
“While certain facts were available at the time the original complaint was filed, Ms. Grant tried to exercise caution with respect to certain subjects to ensure that her civil suit would not frustrate the DOJ’s efforts,” wrote Grant’s attorneys, led by Ann Callis.
Next, Judge Sarah F. Russell will rule as to whether Grant will be permitted to proceed with her amended complaint. If not, the suit will stay in its initial form, with the original January 2024 complaint.
