Yesterday, TNA Wrestling let go several of its backstage figures, including producer and Head of Talent Relations Gail Kim and TNA’s Executive Producer of and head of creative Ariel Shnerer. Many TNA talents have publicly expressed their displeasure toward this move, with former Knockouts Champion Tasha Steelz even writing “GTFOH.”
According to Fightful Select, similar beliefs were held behind the scenes as well. Per a new report from the outlet, the firing of Gail Kim was met with a mix of emotions, such as disbelief, anger, and shock, from TNA talents. For one unnamed star, it swayed them to exit the company upon the expiration of their current contract, rather than stay. Meanwhile, some talents are reportedly fearful that they too could be released by the company.
One source of Fightful appeared unsurprised by Kim’s departure as she was said to be “very outspoken” in the creative department. This allegedly caused her to sometimes buttheads with those in control of it. For another person, that was a positive thing, noting “that’s what you want out of a person in her position. Someone who will advocate for a better show.”
Despite leading the talent relations side, Kim did not officially hold creative power in TNA. Still, the outlet indicates that she has been “heavily” pushing for the Knockouts division to do more after the 2024 exit of TNA President Scott D’Amore.
What’s the reason behind Kim’s Departure?
Sources of Fightful additionally claim that the decision to fire Kim came from TNA President Carlos Silva. As for the reason for letting Kim go, Silva apparently cited “changes” in the company. In Kim’s place, Tommy Dreamer has been reportedly appointed as the new Head of Talent Relations. Meanwhile, Hunter “Delirious” Johnston will now serve as the head of TNA creative.
Following her TNA departure, Kim is said to be a free agent, with no non-compete clause. As such, she is expected to gain interest across the pro wrestling world, which she plans to continue working in.
