The opening segment of tonight’s WWE RAW saw John Cena confirm just how many dates he has left before he walks away from wrestling for good.
In a segment that featured everything from Cena taking the crowd to task to being surprise RKO’d, the new Undisputed WWE Champion opened up about his future. In the ring, Cena revealed a plain text countdown on the jumbotron that read “36 dates.”
At first, Cena said this was how many dates he had left on his contract. However, he said, time passes by faster than people realize. He then began counting off the times he’s already appeared, and the number on the screen began counting down. By the time Cena got to tonight’s appearance, there were just 27 dates left.
Cena then said that 27 dates was all he had left. Not matches, either, as he stressed, but simply appearances. As the crowd booed, John Cena said he doesn’t even have to wrestle, but simply show up and talk. After that “27” hits “0,” Cena said the “professional wrestling timeline stops cold.”
