Damian Priest Honors Caribbean Culture On WrestleMania Gear

Damian Priest showed love to the Caribbean culture in a major way at WWE WrestleMania 41.

Damian Priest squared off against Drew McIntyre in a Sin City Street Fight during WrestleMania Sunday. The Archer of Infamy donned a predominantly black outfit as Slayer icon Kerry King played him to the ring.

Eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot all the symbols on Priest’s gear with two fans in particular providing some solid explanation behind all the symbolism. A fan @glittermyth wrote Priest’s WrestleMania gear paid tribute to Taino, a culture indigenous to the Caribbean.

“I figured it out. The symbols on Damian’s mania gear are from Taíno culture, which is Indigenous to the Caribbean. It’s so cool that Damian was able to represent this part of his culture during wrestlemania!!!” the fan posted.

Another user @tribal_lunatic chimed by offering a more detailed explanation of the symbol on his left pocket. “Yes! His left pocket is a Cemi/Zemi which in taino culture is a spiritual force, deity, or ancestral spirit, and the physical item/totem that reps them and his right is a turtle which to us means fertility, and the origin of life, and also humanity!!”

Was Damian Priest able to defeat Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania?

Despite giving Drew McIntyre a hard time on the road to WrestleMania, Damian Priest was unable to defeat The Scottish Terminator on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

McIntyre maintained dominancy throughout the match with Priest getting little comebacks until Drew sealed the win with a second Claymore Kick.
