WWE Hall of Famers The Bella Twins recently spoke about an emotional backstage moment involving CM Punk before WrestleMania 42. Nikki had to give up her spot in a major match because of an injury. The moment happened shortly before their WrestleMania match began.
The Bella Twins were originally scheduled for the Women’s Tag Team Championship four-way match at WrestleMania 42. However, Nikki suffered an ankle injury during the March 27 episode of SmackDown. Nikki could no longer compete. Before the match started, Nikki appeared on stage. Nikki announced that the returning Paige would replace her.

Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Brie Bella shared details about the emotional backstage atmosphere before the match. She revealed that CM Punk spoke to Nikki moments before their entrance music played.
She said, “I feel like being in that moment just recently at WrestleMania 42 it was really cool because right before we walked out, CM Punk was standing there, our music was literally about to hit.”
“He said some really cool stuff to Nikki. like just, you know, what you’re doing is incredible. Like, it’s hard to, you know, be this like where we’re at and you’re just like, come take my spot, you know. ‘What you’re doing is incredible, it’s hard to be where you’re at, and you’re just like ‘come take my spot.’ Having that, and then our music is hitting and we’re hugging him, and then just knowing Paige is about to come out and everyone’s going to be surprised, it gives me goosebumps.”
Nikki Bella also admitted she became emotional while speaking in front of the WrestleMania crowd. She said, “Like, it was super emotional. I couldn’t even say medically right. I think I messed it up. Even though the echo, no one ever tells you about the echo in stadiums. It’s like I was talking to myself. The words were hitting me back in the face and I was like, ‘Yeah, wait, why wasn’t I warned? I’m so emotional right now.'”
