Former WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair recently opened up about the original ring name she had pitched in WWE.
While speaking on the Ringer Wrestling Show, The Queen Charlotte Flair opened up about her in-ring name. She feels that her name was initially pitched to her as a joke. She’s also convinced that the name was easy, as her father, the 16-time WWE World Champion Ric Flair, was billed from Charlotte, North Carolina. The Queen’s initial pitch was to be called Elizabeth Reid as a tribute to Miss Elizabeth and her brother Reid.
“I think they named me Charlotte as like a joke. I did love Charlotte from ‘Sex and the City,’ but I pitched, because I love Miss Elizabeth, I pitched Elizabeth. Elizabeth Reid was one because of my brother. He was still alive then, but pretty much kind of…Elizabeth was part of my name. Charlotte, I think they went with because ‘Ric is billed from Charlotte. This is easy,’” Charlotte Flair said. [H/T Fightful]
Charlotte Flair was unsuccessful in her bid to win the WWE Women’s Championship from Tiffany Stratton at WrestleMania 41. During the weekend, she also commented on the potential for competing at the rumored Evolution 2 event. Flair also noted that Evolution or not, WWE women still need more TV time and opportunities.
