Eddie Kingston Comments On Current Health, Rumors About His AEW Return

Eddie Kingston is moving in the right direction. However, it doesn’t look like he’s ready to return to the ring… yet.

Former ROH World Champion Eddie Kingston has been sidelined since suffering a leg injury at NJPW Resurgence in May 2024. King had surgery to repair a tibial fracture, ACL and meniscus tear. He was also dealing with stomach issues that have since resolved, but Kingston has still not returned to AEW programming.

Rumors about his return have persisted, including many speculating that he could return as soon as this weekend’s AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view in Glendale, Arizona. Some believe Kingston could appear during the event as a way to neutralize Gabe Kidd, who beat him in a singles match at Resurgence.

Now, Kingston has shared another update on his progress with PWInsider.com, who shared a statement directly from him. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson spoke with Kingston, who said:

“I am not there. I have started running in the ring, I am still doing physical therapy and I am mentally better,” Eddie Kingston said. “Yet again, as people know, it’s a struggle, but being able to be in the ring again and work out with PT and working out with Cezar [Bononi] is helping my mental health, let alone my body. I can finally feel the ball is moving in the right direction.”

During a recent appearance on the Way of the Blade podcast, Kingston shared that he had not been watching much of AEW. Kingston said watching AEW Revolution made him feel like he couldn’t “hang” with the current roster. Despite those feelings, he’s trying to keep his spirits up and work on what he can do to get back into the ring.

“I’m at a place right now where I’m trying to — my mind is like a minefield right now, with this injury and trying to get back, that I’m just trying to maneuver my way around these minefields, and watching that pay-per-view made me just go, ‘I can’t hang with these guys.’ Made me doubt myself. So I’m more focused on breaking that doubt than somebody I can feud with.”

Eddie Kingston knows he has to get his mind and body right, and said that when doubt creeps in, so does his egotistical side. However, he knows he has to get his body and mind right first.
