This week on Monday Night Raw, the current WWE World Tag Team Champions, The New Day, successfully defended their Tag Titles in a Triple Threat Tag Team match. The New Day wrestled the Alpha Academy and the former WWE World Tag Team Champions, The War Raiders. The current champions paid tribute to a WWE legend.
The legend is none other than the Eight-foot Monster, the late Giant Gonzalez. One of the highlights of Gonzalez’s professional wrestling career was when he wrestled The Undertaker at WrestleMania. The New Day paid homage to the veteran by wearing ring gear similar to the monster.
Kofi Kingston took to Twitter to share that he was upset with the fans, as they did not praise him and Xavier Woods after they had successfully defended the tag titles against two teams at the same time. He also shared pictures of their wrestling gear, which mimics Gonzalez’s unique attire that featured airbrushed muscles and patches of hair.
“Wow, after all the trash talk about us not defending our titles, I really thought I’d see a lot more praise of last nights victory over not one, but TWO teams! Oh well. Can’t appreciate greatness when you see it. The embodiment of a loser’s mentality…?? #ThankGodForTheNewDay,” Kofi Kingston tweeted.
The duo also wore similar gear at WrestleMania 41, although that was a bluish-teal color.
