In a surprise move, The Beast Mortos will be on hand for tonight’s AEW Grand Slam: Mexico. Now, we know how the situation came to be.
According to a new report from Fightful Espanol, Tony Khan personally made sure that The Beast Mortos was on hand. The report notes that Khan met with CMLL CEO Salvador Lutteroth Lomeli, and asked that Mortos be allowed to compete. The request came after both Cash Wheeler and Claudio Castagnoli were made unavailable for the show.
Whatever occurred in the meeting, it seemed to have worked. Mortos hasn’t wrestled in Arena México (CMLL’s venue) in almost two decades, but will get the chance to again tonight. The star began his wrestling career in CMLL in 2008, where he wrestled under the name Semental.
Mortos stayed with the company for about three years before making the switch to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. The move itself is a monumental one, as CMLL and AAA have a longstanding rivalry with one another.
