Goldberg is banged up after his highly publicized retirement match.
Saturday Night’s Main Event was the scene of what WWE billed as Goldberg’s retirement match. The former world champion lost to Gunther on the show, and has now revealed an injury he suffered during the bout.
Goldberg revealed that he broke his hand during the match. He also gave an update on some of the other nagging injuries he dealt with before the match, including ongoing knee issues.
“Oh yeah, yeah [I feel good physically following the retirement match]. You can’t really tell but, my hand, I broke my hand, at some point in that match,” Goldberg said on his Car Cast podcast (via Fightful). “I think today’s the first day I can see veins back in my hand. It’s not nearly as swollen as it was. That and… shoulder didn’t hurt, neck didn’t hurt. My knee isn’t worse.”
Goldberg wasn’t completely happy with his final WWE match
Goldberg has been outspoken about how his retirement match went down. He told Ariel Helwani that he had fun overall. However, he was still pissed off at the “way he went out.”
“I mean Saturday Night’s Main Event, and live TV in Atlanta. You always have your dreams of how you’re going to do things and ultimately to have a little bit more control over the time and the space would’ve been much more preferred, let’s just put it that way,” he explained. “But to be given that opportunity on such a special show, with the lineage of the show, to be able to go against the World Heavyweight Champion, to be able to go against Gunther, I mean hey, again, it was an honor and a privilege to be given that opportunity and I had to make the most of it.”
Goldberg also cast doubt on his “retired” status despite it being billed as a retirement match. MJF recently addressed the potential of Goldberg showing up in AEW and offered a colorful response.
