Roman Reigns reveals insight he got from Vince McMahon.
Currently, the creative direction of WWE is led by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, with Nick Khan also running operations as WWE President. For many of the years preceding, then-WWE CEO Vince McMahon largely took on those responsibilities. On a recent episode of What’s Your Story, former WWE Champion Roman Reigns opened up about the biggest personal and business lessons he learned from McMahon.
“He would always tell me, and this is when I was so locked in at work that I wasn’t holding up my end on the other side, he would just tell me, ‘You got to be present. When you go home, you have to be present. It doesn’t matter what you do out here, you have to be present.’ And I took that to heart so much,” Reigns said (H/T to F4WOnline for the transcription).
“Sometimes it’s the other way now. Now, it’s hard not to be present when I’m not home, when I’m not with my children. Because that’s where I really want to be, is with my wife and my children. But those were just one of those funny lessons of just seeing what he’s talking about, and then seeing it evolve in my own life.”
On a business level, Reigns noted that McMahon taught him to always be ahead of the curve, but not by too much. McMahon stepped down from his roles as WWE CEO and Chairman in August 2022. During that same time, Reigns reigned as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. That position was, of course, later filled by Cody Rhodes when he defeated “The OTC” at WWE WrestleMania 40 in April 2024.
